Help Casa de la Alegría: Nurture and Educate Kids

Casa de la Alegría: A Safe Haven for Coffee Harvest Children

At Tico Coffee Roasters, we believe coffee is more than just a drink — it’s about people, culture, and community. We are proud to be a women- and Latina-owned company. We source directly from small farms around the world. We honor the lives and traditions behind every bean.

We have partnered with Daniela Gutiérrez and her family since 2019. They are located in Tarrazú, Costa Rica. Each year, we purchase coffee from their farm, Finca San Luis. Daniela and her family grow exceptional coffee. They are also deeply committed to caring for the community that makes the harvest possible.

Why Casa de la Alegría Matters

During Costa Rica’s coffee harvest (November–March), families of seasonal workers travel from Panama, Nicaragua, and across Costa Rica. With no safe childcare options, many children follow their parents to the farms. They are exposed to harsh weather, long days in the fields, and unsafe conditions.

To change this reality, Daniela and her family built Casa de la Alegría (House of Joy), a daycare center that provides:

✨ A safe, nurturing environment

✨ Healthy meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks)

✨ Education and activities led by a teacher

✨ Social interaction, play, and joy

✨ Comfort and care while their parents work long hours

For these children, Casa de la Alegría isn’t just a daycare. It’s a chance to learn. They have the opportunity to grow and simply be kids.

The Urgent Need

Running Casa de la Alegría costs about $4,000 per month. This amount covers staff, meals, supplies, and compliance with health and safety codes. With the harvest beginning in November, we need to raise $10,000. This will help keep the doors open. We also need to provide backpacks for the upcoming school year. Additionally, we must ensure every child has a safe place this season.

How You Can Help

At Tico Coffee Roasters, we contribute a portion of every sale of Finca San Luis coffee. This supports Casa de la Alegría. But we can’t do it alone.

We invite you to join us. Your donation — whether $20, $50, or more — directly impacts the lives of these children. Every gift helps provide food, education, safety, and joy.

Together, we can empower families, protect children, and nourish lives from farm to cup.

Donate today and be part of bringing joy, safety, and opportunity to the children of Casa de la Alegría.
